How sustainable is PCR?
Carbon footprint efficiency
Flexible Packaging is already king when it comes to carbon footprint: glass, carton and paper all require more resources when judged on lifetime value. Plastic got so popular due to its efficiency: it costs relatively little energy and water to produce, and is also cheap to transport and store.
One of the biggest downsides of laminated flexible packaging is waste: plastics last a long time and laminates can’t be reused. This makes their litter more noticeable as it doesn’t degrade. PCR doesn’t share this downside: it’s not only capable of being reused, it’s specifically designed to be re-used.
Closing the loop
